About the Howe Sound Crest Trail Recreation Facility Plan

The Howe Sound Crest Trail is a popular hiking trail in Cypress Park in southwest B.C. As the number of visitors to the Howe Sound Crest Trail continues to rise, there is growing pressure on the park’s facilities and resources.

BC Parks is working on a Recreation Facility Plan to identify what facilities and services are needed to:

  • Provide a range of enjoyable, high-quality, and safe outdoor recreation opportunities for visitors, and
  • Help manage the increasing number of visitors to protect the environmental and cultural integrity of the park.

The Recreation Facility Plan will identify and recommend facility improvement projects to potentially complete in the future. The plan will consider existing visitor use challenges and recommend facilities that provide practical solutions to problems. It will look at the following aspects of the park:

  • Indigenous interests
  • Environmental interests
  • Visitor use pressures and trends
  • Parking/congestion
  • Active transportation
  • Accessibility
  • Existing and potential new park facilities

The area of interest is the Howe Sound Crest Trail. This includes the main 29-kilometre trail from Cypress Bowl to a trailhead south of Porteau Cove. The study area also includes four trails that connect with the main trail: Brunswick Mountain, Mt. Harvey, Binkert Trail (The Lions), and Mount Unnecessary.

We want to hear from you.

Input from stakeholders, residents, and the community is essential to this process. We want to know how you use the Howe Sound Crest Trail, your perspectives on the trail, and your ideas for the future. Your input will help inform recommendations for facility improvements in the Recreation Facility Plan.
