There are increasing concerns related to safety, ecological impacts, and conflict between users. The current management direction states that should “… safety issues, user conflicts, ecosystem impacts or increased levels of use warrant, snowmobile use may be prohibited in future.” Consulting with public stakeholders is important when deciding which direction should be taken.

There are increasing concerns related to safety, ecological impacts, and conflict between users. Several reports and complaints have been made directly to BC Parks. Public safety is of utmost concern and BC Park staff need to explore this ongoing issue further.

BC Parks will be reaching out to various partners and stakeholders including:

• Office of the Wet’suwet’en
• Residents of Call Lake
• Smithers Snowmobile Association
• Bulkley Valley Rod & Gun Club
• Bulkley Valley Naturalists
• Bulkley Valley Backpackers, and
• General public who are not associated with the primary stakeholders listed above but enjoy and recreate in the park.

The consultation period will last for approximately 1 month beginning in November. Public consultation will close November 30, 2021 and a decision will be made in January 2022. Ongoing engagement, education and compliance/enforcement will continue well into 2022.

All feedback will be thoroughly reviewed and analyzed. Following this public consultation a decision will be made on the best course of action for the safety of all park users and the ecological integrity of the park itself.
