Visitor Survey for Maquinna Marine Park Hot Springs (mux̣šiƛa)

September 25, 2023: This survey is now closed. Thank you for your participation.

The hot springs area is a popular destination in Maquinna Marine Provincial Park, northwest of Tofino. Park visitors come to enjoy the boardwalk trail through old growth forest, coastline views, and the natural hot springs. The ʕaḥuusʔatḥ place name for the hot springs in the Nuu-chah-nulth language is mux̣šiƛa, pronounced muhh-shi-tla and meaning "steaming from rock."

To understand and manage visitation in this area, BC Parks and the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ Nation, represented by the Maaqutusiis Hahoulthee Stewardship Society (MHSS), are working together to develop a visitor use management strategy for the hot springs area. This strategy will set out a vision and guidance for protecting natural and cultural values and providing quality recreational experiences at these unique hot springs.

We are interested to learn more about your experience as a recent visitor to the hot springs. Your feedback will help us build a successful strategy for managing visitor use in this area of the park.

The survey will be open to the public from July 19 to September 24, 2023.
