Update December 09, 2024: Engagement Summary Results have been added to the documents section on the right. Thank you to everyone who participated.

BC Parks would like to thank everyone who participated in the survey to provide input on the Mount Seymour Provincial Park Recreation Facility Plan. BC Parks staff have concluded an in-depth review of all responses and summarized the results in a report that is now publicly available.

Background:

Mount Seymour Provincial Park Located just 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver, Mount Seymour Provincial Park is enjoyed by visitors from the Lower Mainland and beyond. They participate in a variety of outdoor activities, including skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, and mountain biking. As the number of visitors to Mount Seymour continues to rise, there is growing pressure on the park’s facilities and resources.

In response to these challenges, BC Parks is developing a Recreation Facility Plan aimed at identifying necessary facilities and services to:

• Provide a range of enjoyable, high-quality, and safe outdoor recreation opportunities for visitors, and

• Help manage the increasing number of visitors to protect the environmental and cultural integrity of the park.

The Recreation Facility Plan will outline and recommend potential facility improvement projects. It will address existing visitor use challenges and propose facilities that offer practical solutions. The plan will evaluate several critical aspects of the park, including:

• Indigenous interests

• Environmental considerations

• Visitor use pressures and trends

• Parking and congestion

• Active transportation options

• Accessibility

• Current and potential new park facilities

Once developed, the results of this plan will be shared with partners and the community, fostering transparency and collaboration in the ongoing effort to enhance the park experience while preserving its natural beauty.

What BC Parks Heard:

From March to May 2023, BC Parks launched an online survey to gather input on the Mount Seymour Recreation Facility Plan. Please visit https://helpshapebc.gov.bc.ca/mount-seymour-provincial-park-recreation-facility-plan to view the Mount Seymour Provincial Park Recreational Facility Plan Community Input Summary – under the Documents tab on the right of this page.

Next Steps:

BC Parks sincerely appreciates the feedback provided by the public during this process. We still have some voices to hear before we finalize the plan. BC Parks has received and incorporated the input we received during the online survey and now we are continuing to consult with First Nations and engage with Equity, Inclusion and Diversity groups to ensure we have heard and included their feedback into the draft plan. Thanks again for your continued involvement in protecting these spaces.
