BC Parks would like to thank everyone who participated in the survey to provide input on the Golden Ears Provincial Park Recreation Facility Plan. BC Parks staff have concluded an in-depth review of all responses and summarized the results in a report that is now publicly available.

Background:

One of southwestern British Columbia’s largest parks, Golden Ears Provincial Park is an exceptional destination for many forms of recreation. The park features three large campgrounds and an extensive network of trails. Alouette Lake is a popular destination for swimming, boating, and fishing. As the number of visitors to Golden Ears Provincial Park continues to rise, there is growing pressure on the park’s facilities and resources.

BC Parks is working on a Recreation Facility Plan to identify what facilities and services are needed to:

• Provide a range of enjoyable, high-quality, and safe outdoor recreation opportunities for visitors, and

• Help manage the increasing number of visitors to protect the environmental and cultural integrity of the park.

The Recreation Facility Plan will identify and recommend facility improvement projects to potentially complete in the future. The plan will consider existing visitor use challenges and recommend facilities that provide practical solutions to problems. It will look at the following aspects of the park:

• Indigenous interests

• Environmental considerations

• Visitor use pressures and trends

• Parking and congestion

• Active transportation options

• Accessibility

• Current and potential new park facilities

Once developed, the results of this plan will be shared with partners and the community, fostering transparency and collaboration in the ongoing effort to enhance the park experience while preserving its natural beauty.

What BC Parks Heard:

From May to July 2023, BC Parks launched an online survey to gather input on the Golden Ears Provincial Park Recreation Facility Plan. Please visit https://helpshapebc.gov.bc.ca/golden-ears-provincial-park-recreation-facility-plan to view the Golden Ears Provincial Park Recreational Facility Plan Community Input Summary – under the Documents tab on the right of this page.

Next Steps:

BC Parks sincerely appreciates the feedback provided by the public during this process. We still have some voices to hear before we finalize the plan. BC Parks has received and incorporated the input we received during the online survey and now we are continuing to consult with First Nations and engage with Equity, Inclusion and Diversity groups to ensure we have heard and included their feedback into the draft plan. Thanks again for your continued involvement in protecting these spaces.
